I Kicked My Brother’s Family Out of My Home after Checking Hidden Cameras in My Bedroom

A man discovered that his engagement ring, one of his most prized possessions, was missing from his room. He had hidden it in a drawer, knowing his 9-year-old nephew had a habit of stealing. The boy had previously stolen items from stores, and despite his parents apologizing to shop owners, they never took action to stop him. Worried that his nephew might take the ring, the man set up a cheap spy camera to keep an eye on it.

When the ring went missing, he checked the camera footage and saw his nephew rummaging through his drawer. The man confronted his nephew, but the boy lied, claiming the ring was in the guest room. Despite searching, it couldn’t be found. The man then demanded that his brother either return the ring or pay him $4,000 to buy a new one, giving him a week to do so. If his brother failed to pay, he would be kicked out of the house. His brother, who had lost his job and was staying with him temporarily, couldn’t afford to repay him, so he had to move into a motel.

Later, the man received help from Reddit users who suggested he search in places his nephew might hide things. Following their advice, he found the ring in the guest room bathroom sink. It took some effort to retrieve it, but the man was relieved. He then proposed to his girlfriend, and she accepted the ring.

Despite finding the ring, the man refused to let his brother and family move back in. He also talked to his nephew, who confessed he hid the ring in the sink because he was afraid of being punished. The man was disappointed in his nephew but decided not to dwell on it. Reddit users largely supported his decision, agreeing that his brother needed to address his son’s stealing problem. The man stood by his choice, unwilling to let his brother’s family return under such circumstances.
