Last Friday, my 10-year-old son, Jake, came home from playing outside with a grin plastered on his face. He was holding a small wooden box, carefully cradling it likе it was the most precious thing in the world.
“Mom, Mooom, Mr. Carson gave me a present!” he said, his eyes wide with excitement. I immediately felt a bit uneasy. Mr. Carson had never shown any particular interest in Jake before, so this sudden gesture felt strange. But Jake’s enthusiasm was contagious, so I smiled and told him to show me what was inside.
